Give to Tornado Relief Efforts
On the evening of March 22, 2022, a powerful E3 tornado made its way from the Westbank of Jefferson Parish across the Mississippi River into New Orleans and Arabi, Louisiana. The devastation brought by the tornado severely impacted the lives of many but most especially residents of Arabi in St. Bernard Parish.
The following day Archbishop Aymond visited the storm-impacted area. He first went to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic School in Chalmette, which opened for the day as a "community center" of sorts providing meals, phone charging stations, and other resources for the community while providing a safe place for their students for the day.
The archbishop then traveled to the police substation in Arabi where St. Bernard Parish government officials including the parish president, sheriff, fire chief and many others were joined by Governor John Bel Edwards and Representative Troy Carter to receive damage assessments and plan for response.
Finally he went to the heavily damaged neighborhood to visit with those families and households who were directly impacted by the tornado.
