A Local Pastoral Response to PornographyOn March 10, 2019, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will observe the 2nd Annual Safe Haven Sunday to continue the vital effort to address the harmfulness of pornography in marriages, families, and our culture. This year, the archdiocese is once again partnering with Covenant Eyes to bring a resource to the homes of all Catholics by making available a new book Confident: Helping Parents Navigate Online Exposure
The History of Safe Haven Sunday
When New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond heard within a week three tragic stories about pornography’s impact on people in his archdiocese, he knew it was time to seek divine direction. Archbishop Aymond responded by assembling a team that is developing a five-year pastoral plan to educate parents, educators and clergy about the threat pornography presents and to give them the tools to protect themselves and their families.
The plan was introduced to the faithful with the inaugural “Safe Haven Sunday” in 2018, a weekend set aside to address the issue within the context of the liturgy .

Safe Haven Prayer
Loving Father,Thank you for the gift of marriage and family life. We entrust to you our home, where our marriage and family live and grow. We ask you to make it a safe haven for all who live and enter these walls. May our home be a holy place for both young and old to be formed in the truth regarding life, love, sex and marriage. May each of our members be protected from and guided in seeking to avoid pornography, while embracing the freedom and purity of life in Christ.
If there are past wounds that have occurred due to the availability of pornography on our family’s devices or lack of awareness, we ask you to send forth your Spirit to heal, bless, renew and consecrate this home as a safe haven with your son Jesus Christ at the center of our lives, today, tomorrow and always.
