Over the past several years, the Archdiocese of New Orleans has been renewing itself through the Ninth General Synod. Fed by the hopes, concerns, and insight of the faithful, the Synod committee titled this venture "Encountering Jesus, Witnessing With Joy."
The priorities and goals of this Synod were promulgated from the Cathedral of St. Louis King of France on the Feast of Pentecost 2015. After over a year of groups meeting, an implementation plan, complete with suggestions for parishes and action items by Archdiocesan offices, was made available to the people of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on October 1, 2016.
The Office of Religious Education is working to provide resources as outlined by the Synod and make them available for use by parishes, institutions and individuals for their personal and communal faith development. We also continue to fulfill our mission of visiting parishes, schools, and Parish Schools of Religion and provide guidance, formation, and support as we all work to serve the catechetical needs of the Archdiocese.
It is our hope that we can contribute to making the Synod a "living document." We will assist to provide innovative creativity, clear teaching, encouragement, and renewed passion to the ways we encounter Jesus, learn about our Catholic faith, and share our witness to the Gospel with joy.
