How would you feel if everyone forgot your birthday?

How would you feel if your birthday came around and nobody remembered?

You have anxiously been waiting for it for an entire year. You were so excited and looking forward to celebrating with friends and family. You were imagining how much fun it would be. You were thinking of activities to do with friends and presents you would receive. Will I get that new book I have always wanted? Will I maybe get that new bike that I wished for? What friends will come and wish me a happy birthday?

I would think you would be very sad and disappointed.

So, I wonder why it should be any different for Jesus. How would he feel if we forgot his birthday?

Jesus has been waiting for Christmas, which is his birthday. He is looking forward to us praying more during Christmas and helping others. He is looking forward to us spending Christmas with people who do not have as much as we do. If we are too busy to stop and do these things to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, we make him sad, as you would be if someone forgot your birthday.

So, what can we do to keep Christ in Christmas? We can give Jesus all the gifts he would want for his birthday. We can go to Mass and pray for those in need. We can also bring joy to the poor by donating food to those who don’t have enough for a Christmas dinner. We should invite that friend who does not have a family to celebrate the holidays with us. This is how we give very special gifts to Jesus, and by doing this we will be keeping Christ in Christmas.
