On Tuesday, April 4 at 1:30 pm, Roman Catholic Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans will welcome clergy, laity and children of all faiths to his residence to pray for the safety of all children. As April is Prevent Child Abuse Awareness Month, the archbishop and interfaith leaders hope to bring attention to the issue of child abuse in the community and to increase awareness of what people of faith can do as individuals and together to prevent child abuse. Archbishop Aymond will lead the service, and special guests include students from the Islamic School of Greater New Orleans, the Jewish Community Day School, and St. Rita Catholic School, New Orleans. Following the prayer service, the children will be invited to “plant” blue pinwheels in the lawn in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana.
This event is co-sponsored by the archdiocesan Interfaith and Ecumenical and Safe Environment ministries, Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana and the Audrey Hepburn Care Center at Children's Hospital.
