PRAYER & WORSHIP

Daily Intentions:
Day 1 -- For an end to human trafficking, that the dignity of all of God’s children will be protected, we pray to the Lord.
Day 2 -- For Pope Francis, that our Heavenly Father may gift him with deep wisdom as he calls the Church to struggle against the evil of human trafficking, and for bishops, priests, and religious, that they continue to be leaders in the fight against modern-day slavery, both domestically and abroad, we pray to the Lord.
Day 3 -- For the President of the United States, government leaders, and policy makers that Jesus, the Son of God, will help them understand the dignity of all human persons and support legislation that better protects vulnerable populations in our midst, we pray to the Lord.
Day 4 -- For all Catholics, that God inspire them to take action in their local communities to support and protect victims and survivors of human trafficking, we pray to the Lord.
Day 5 -- For law enforcement, that God grants them the wisdom to recognize situations of forced labor and sexual slavery, while working to protect its victims and holding perpetrators accountable, we pray to the Lord.
Day 6 -- For all those who perpetrate human trafficking, both buyers & sellers, that they may have a conversion of heart that leads them to Christ’s mercy & forgiveness.
Day 7 -- For all those who are vulnerable to being recruited by human traffickers, that they may be protected from the lure of traffickers and receive care from those who legitimately assist others to relieve their vulnerabilities.
Day 8 -- For those who are victims of human trafficking — men, women, & children, that they may find a way out of trafficking into healing & wholeness.
Day 9 -- For survivors of human trafficking, that they might find the support they need to start a new life, we pray to the Lord

Church Teaching
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
“2414 The seventh commandment forbids acts or enterprises that for any reason - selfish or ideological, commercial, or totalitarian - lead to the enslavement of human beings, to their being bought, sold and exchanged like merchandise, in disregard for their personal dignity. It is a sin against the dignity of persons and their fundamental rights to reduce them by violence to their productive value or to a source of profit. St. Paul directed a Christian master to treat his Christian slave "no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, . . . both in the flesh and in the Lord."

“Human trafficking is a horrific crime against the fundamental rights and dignity of the human person. The United Nations Protocol on Human Trafficking defines it as the recruitment, transportation, harboring or receipt of persons by means of force, fraud or coercion.
Human trafficking will never be truly defeated without eliminating the consumerism that feeds it and prosecuting those actors in receiving countries, including our own, that benefit because of the exploitation of vulnerable human beings....
Human trafficking is a horrific crime against the basic dignity and rights of the human person. All efforts must be expended to end it. In the end, we must work together—Church, state, and community—to eliminate the root causes and markets that permit traffickers to flourish; to make whole the survivors of this crime; and to ensure that, one day soon, trafficking in human persons vanishes from the face of the earth.”
