On Nov. 6, Louisiana voters will be asked whether the state should return to requiring unanimous verdicts in all felony trials after 120 years. Louisiana was the first, and remains one of only two states to allow dissent in felony trial verdicts. Reporters for The Advocate will present information about the history of the state’s unusual split-verdict law from its start in the Jim Crow era; highlight the findings of the newspaper’s year-long investigation into thousands of criminal trial records across the state; and take questions.
This presentation, hosted by the St. Luke's Multicultural Committee, will be
Monday September 10 at 7:00 at St. Luke the Evangelist Church Family Life Center. 910 Cross Gates Blvd. Slidell.
Please mark your calendar and attend. We will also talk about what you can do in your parish to educate on this important social justice issue.
