Each year, the Archdiocese of New Orleans, through its Office of Marriage and Family Life, invites parishes this Sunday to celebrate Family Day. This is an opportunity to gather families together and to be encouraged to renew your life together, strengthen friendships, form new ones, and to cultivate an appreciation for the importance and goodness of family life.
St. Peter said these “It is good that we are here” (Mt 17:4) when he and St. James and St. John were on Mount Tabor with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah in the mystery we know as the Transfiguration of the Lord. This Family Day, we encourage families to both travel “up the mountain” and be with Jesus in his Body and Blood in the Eucharist as well as receive Christ in our homes through our shared meals, joys, and struggles. It is good, Lord, that we are here as a family seeking to draw closer to you and to each other.
