God loves each human life from the instant of his or her conception and entrusts this gift to the protection of a mother and father. Abortion ends the life of a child and offends God. It also deeply wounds the men and women involved.
2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.
From the moment of conception, the life of every human being is to be respected in an absolute way because man is the only creature on earth that God has "wished for himself " (16) and the spiritual soul of each man is "immediately created" by God; (17) his whole being bears the image of the Creator. Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves "the creative action of God" (18) and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end.(19) God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can, in any circumstance, claim for himself the right to destroy directly an innocent human being.
Over 30 years ago a court decision was rendered which legalized abortion throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy. This decision, Roe v. Wade, is the reason over 1 million abortions have been committed in the U.S. each year
To help stop the anti-life push around the world, the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the spiritual adoption of an unborn child. This is done by praying that the one particular but unknown child’s life be spared abortion and be allowed to continue to live.
To help accomplish this, it was recommended an individual say the following daily prayer for a period of nine months.
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of [baby’s name] the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New Orleans provides adoption services.
Prayer for mothers who place their children for adoption:
Heavenly Father,
Bless all expectant mothers
who are placing their children for adoption
and who may also be young and afraid.
They love their children so much that
they are willing to place them with a loving family.
Bless too, all the women who already have shown
the sacrificial nature of a mother's love in making adoption plans
for their children.
Give them all your courage and your peace, through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
