In response to the racial tensions stemming from the death of George Floyd and similar racially charged acts of violence in the nation, Archbishop Gregory Aymond will preside over a prayer service and peaceful march on Friday, June 5 beginning at 3 pm. Bishop Fernand Cheri, Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans will preach at the service. The prayer service, titled
Requiem for the Black Children of God will memorialize and pray for those who have died, for peace in our communities, and for an end to racial injustices.
All are welcome to gather on the steps of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Chancery at 7887 Walmlsey Ave. in New Orleans and to walk solemnly to the steps of Notre Dame Seminary for prayer. Those in attendance are asked to wear a mask and to practice social distancing throughout the event.
This prayer service is sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans Racial Harmony Commission, the Safe Environment Office, the Office of Justice and Peace, and the Office of Religious Education.
