“GARDEN” Musical premiers March 16-19 at Notre Dame Seminary

The #NOLACatholic community is looking forward to the debut of a full-stage play, “Garden” the musical produced by Dumb Ox Ministries. “Garden” is an original musical play written and directed by Joey Martineck and featuring the music of Greg&Lizzy. The dramatic effort is a modern-day, beautiful retelling of the oldest story in the book: the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The play features dialogue that balances humor and drama, a plot that’s surprising while being familiar, and themes of authentic human love, relationship, and struggle that inform and inspire the audience with a hope-filled vision of what it means to be human.

“Garden invites us to renew our sense of wonder in the deepest places of our humanity,” says Martineck, who currently studies at Notre Dame Seminary. “The way he [Martineck] pulled off a fresh take on the simple story everyone already knows-without making it outlandish-is truly stunning,” says executive producer, Brian Butler. “In fact, Garden is a grassroots success story featuring the talent of many locally based artists, and the seminary has been absolutely wonderful to work with,” Butler added. Meanwhile, local singers/songwriters Greg&Lizzy provide the musical landscape of the play with songs from a pair of their solo albums. “We’ve been wanting to share our [Greg&Lizzy’s] music in a new medium, and this aggressive project has certainly provided it,” says composer and lyricist, Greg Boudreaux. With a cast and crew of talented New Orleans natives, show production under the experienced direction of Dumb Ox Ministries, and the play performed in the heart of the city at Notre Dame Seminary, “Garden” is poised to be an inspiring local event that garners national attention.

Only one weekend of scheduled performances will be offered March 16-19, 2017, with a limited seating capacity. Dumb Ox has partnered with the Archdiocese of New Orleans to offer two special showings of the play – “Catholic Schools Day,” and “Date Night” – that will feature a tailored experience for these particular groups.
