“There is so much noise in the world! May we learn to be silent in our hearts and before God.”
- Pope Francis
As this quote from Pope Francis so simply states, everywhere one turns, there is noise, alerts, and messages vying for one's attention. It is hard in today’s society to find quiet, but it is in the quiet that God speaks to us in a unique way.
Both the
Archdiocesan Retreat Center and the
Archdiocesan Spirituality Center are offering extraordinary opportunities for the local faithful to "learn to be silent in our hearts" by offering multi-day silent directed retreats at the end of the July. The main purpose of a Silent Directed Retreat is to help a person hear the voice of God and deepen the individual's relationship with Him.
The Archdiocesan Retreat Center, dedicated to Our Lady of the Cenacle, will offer a 5-day silent directed retreat July 19-25. This 5-day retreat is based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Each day, retreatants will meet with an assigned spiritual director with tample time for rest, personal prayer and walks outdoors. There will be daily Mass and opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To register, please call Susan Halligan at 504-267-9604.
The Archdiocesan Spirituality Center will offer a second silent, directed retreat from July 26 through August 1. During this retreat, once again, each retreatant will meet daily with a spiritual director and given scripture to pray with. The rest of the day is spent in silence, prayer and rest. Through scripture and reflection under the daily guidance of the spiritual director, the retreatant will become more aware of God's presence and action in their life. Contact the Archdiocesan Spirituality Center at (504) 861-3254 for more information or to register.
